Thomas Rhett, Family and Crew Take Moment of Silence for Vegas Victims

Before his Thursday night (Oct. 5) concert, Thomas Rhett and crew held an intimate moment of silence to honor victims of the mass shooting at the Route 91 Festival in Las Vegas.

Rhett shared a powerful picture of the moment on Instagram, which happened backstage before his show at the North Charleston Coliseum. “Today we gathered for a moment of silence in the arena we are playing in tonight as a family,” the singer writes in a lengthy caption next to a photo of him and his crew, with their hands folded and heads bowed inside an empty arena. Rhett shares that some of his crew members were in Las Vegas when the shooting happened.

“It was very strange walking into an arena for a night of music after the horrible events that took place a few days ago. We decided as a band and crew that we would not play this or the shows to come in fear, but rather in a spirit of love and joy that music is supposed to bring,” he continues. “We will never forget this tragic event but we will continue to celebrate the good in the world. Much love, God bless.”

These Are the Victims’ Stories

The “Unforgettable” singer posted another heartfelt message the day after the shooting on Sunday (Oct. 1) that left 59 people dead and hundreds injured. He also donated to the Las Vegas Victims Fund when he was called upon to do so by friends Florida Georgia Line, who donated $10,000 to the cause. Jason Aldean was performing his headlining set when a gunman opened fire on the crowd from his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Aldean and Josh Abbott Band, who also performed at the festival that night, have both canceled upcoming tour dates to honor the victims.
