Radio Reports On California Wildfires

Wildfires have struck throughout CALIFORNIA, and radio is once again on the alert. At least 14 wildfires in northern CALIFORNIA has already destroyed 1,500 structures, covering a collective 57,000 acres. 

One fire in SANTA ROSA has burned 35,000 acres, forced the evacuations of two SANTA ROSA hospitals and sent residents running for their lives. 11 are reported dead.

ALL ACCESS heard from WINE COUNTRY RADIO Alternative KSXY (THE 101, MODERN ALTERNATIVE)/SANTA ROSA PD DRAY LOPEZ, who is flying back to SAN FRANCISCO this afternoon after attending ACL in AUSTIN over the weekend. LOPEZ said, “My house is a block away from the evacuation area. A few friends and family have lost their houses.”

AMATURO News-Talk KSRO-A-K278CD/SANTA ROSA dropped syndicated talk to cover the fire with its own news staff as well as alternating with audio of ABC O&O KGO-TV (ABC 7)/SAN FRANCISCO’s coverage of the fires. The AMATURO cluster — Country KFGY (FROGGY 92.9), Classic Rock KVRV (97.7 THE RIVER), Top 40 KHTH (HOT 101.7), and Classic Hits KMHX (K-HITS 104.9) — is simulcasting KSRO’s coverage.

WINE DOWN MEDIA Sports KVON-A/NAPA is also covering the fire with updates; sister AC KVYN (99.3 THE VINE)/ST. HELENA, CA is presently off the air due to the fire.

South of LOS ANGELES. a brushfire in ANAHEIM HILLS has closed a portion of the 91 Freeway.
