Lady Antebellum circled up as band and crew before their show in Manchester, England, on Wednesday (Oct. 4) to offer a prayer for peace for themselves and their audience. Readers can press play above and click through the two videos of the emotional moment.
“We just wanted to take a second to just formally and just with unity to acknowledge what happened a couple of days ago …” Hillary Scott says in the video, referring to the deadly shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on Oct. 1. “… If y’all don’t mind just grabbing hands …”
Lady Antebellum’s concert in Manchester was their first time onstage since the shooting. Scott’s husband, Lady A drummer Chris Tyrrell, said a prayer for the whole group as they stood holding hands.
Country Stars Respond Following Route 91 Harvest Festival Shooting
“… It’s not by accident that we get to be the representation of country music to this city on this night, and one of the first performances post-Vegas,” Tyrrell prays. “We don’t take that lightly. We feel the weight of that.”
Lady Antebellum’s show at Manchester Arena held special significance even before the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting. In May, the venue was the site of a suicide bombing after an Ariana Grande concert; 22 people were killed and dozens more were injured.
“… Being so far away from home, we are not gonna live in fear here. This is a safe space, because we’re all here together,” Scott says through tears before her husband’s prayer starts. “Not only have I and our family and so many people here, so many people we don’t even know, have prayed for us before we got here.”
