Though Danielle Bradbery is releasing her sophomore album I Don’t Believe We’ve Met, the fact is we have met, and we couldn’t be more impressed with this twenty-one year-old singer-songwriter. Bradbery’s first album since her 2013 debut release is due out on December 1, and it’s a project her legion of supportive fans has long awaited.
Leading up to the December release, Bradbery is leaking tracks on select Fridays, giving the world a glimpse at what they can expect from the complete offering. What we have gathered so far is that the teenager who entered our homes years ago is not a child anymore, and she has grown both as an individual and a professional.
For Bradbery, the release of the tracks one-by-one has been a rollercoaster of emotions.
I get anxious, I’m excited, I get nervous ’cause it’s been awhile since new music has been out. And the fact I get to release songs early off the new album just to give everybody a glimpse of what it’s gonna be like and give them something after so long, it’s been really surreal. I’m very excited to see the fans react and give me opinions on the new songs. So it’s been really fun. I’m excited!
This time around is a little different for the small-framed artist with the gigantic pipes that won the hearts of Americans on The Voice. Rather than accepting all outside songs and rushing to put a project on the shelves, Bradbery has taken her time, put her own heart and hands on the tracks that made the final cut, and feels incredibly attached to the sliver of her life that will be available for public consumption.
Getting to kind of sit down for these past couple of years and really figure out a little bit more on the songwriting side and a little bit more about me and me as an artist has been very, very helpful. For this new album, now that I’m a huge part of just having the songs be basically born and having them be such a big part of me is a little bit nerve-wracking at times, because a lot of these are actually real stories, and it’s almost like having a diary that you naturally don’t want anybody to see, but I’m like, “Here! Here’s all the pages!” So, it’s a little bit nerve-wracking, but I had to tell myself, “Hey, you’re saying all this stuff about wanting to be an honest artist, singer, songwriter, and that’s exactly what you’re about to do, so you can’t be afraid of it. All you have to do is be confident and excited about it,” and that’s what I’m trying to do.
Through her honesty in the music she has been working on for years and has ultimately hand-selected to share with the world, Bradbery hopes fans can relate to her and realize they are not alone in whatever they are going through. In fact, one of the things that Bradbery enjoys most about performing her songs out is when fans approach her and tell her that her words resonated with them because they had been through something similar.
I have a song that’s called “Worth It,” and I have dads who come up to me and they’re like, “Thank you for writing that song, because I have a daughter and I want her to feel worth it,” and that’s how my dad feels, so things like that are what I’ve been wanting the fans to feel like, so hopefully it continues.
That connection with fathers, daughters, and the fan base as a whole is what makes “Worth It” one of the tracks Bradbery is most excited for people to hear when it is released. She explained she had a “gut feeling” when she entered her writing session that day and knew exactly what she wanted to put on the table as a song topic.
Some people may think, okay, well, they feel like they’re good enough or worth it or whatever that they look cocky or too into themselves, and I’m like, “No, not really. You can feel worth it, you can feel strong, and it’s okay to feel that way.”
Bradbery is hopeful that listeners will take the song to heart and apply it to whatever part of their lives in which they may lack confidence, whether it is a romantic relationship, business relationship, or any other area in which they struggle.
