Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson Win Musical Event of the Year at the 2017 CMAs

Glen Campbell and Willie Nelson have been announced as the winners of Musical Event of the Year at the 2017 CMA Awards.

The two country legends collaborated on a new recording of Nelson’s classic song “Funny How Time Slips Away” for Campbell’s final album, Adios. They were up against Kenny Chesney and Pink for “Setting the World on Fire,” Eric Church and Rhiannon Giddens’ collaboration on “Kill a Word,” “Speak to a Girl” from Tim McGraw and Faith Hill and “Craving You,” a duet between Thomas Rhett and Maren Morris.

Campbell’s posthumous win comes three months to the day after his death on Aug. 8. His family will be in attendance at the awards show on Wednesday night.

Kelsea Ballerini and host Lara Spencer revealed the win live in a special broadcast of Good Morning America from Nashville Wednesday morning (Nov. 8). They also revealed Brothers Osborne as the winners for Music Video of the Year at the 2017 CMA Awards; the sibling duo took home the award for their innovative video for “It Ain’t My Fault,” which is the fourth single from their Pawn Shop album.

Ballerini will be among the performers when the rest of the 2017 CMA Awards are handed out Wednesday night during a live broadcast from the Bridgestone Arena on ABC. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood are returning to host the ceremony for the tenth straight year. Ballerini is scheduled to perform her single “Legends” with Reba McEntire, and she is also facing off against McEntire in the category of Female Vocalist of the Year.
