You’ve Never Seen Anything Like Alan Jackson’s Old Mansion! [Pictures]

Alan Jackson lived the dream after he shot to prominence as one of the most popular country singers of his generation, building himself a house that was like something out of a movie.

Jackson bought 135 acres in the affluent rural community of Franklin, Tenn., and began building a house there that was inspired by Tara from Gone With the Wind and the elaborate southern plantation-style homes Jackson had loved since he was growing up in Georgia. The 18,622-square-foot house took 23 months to build and was completed in 1997. Jackson and his wife Denise raised their three daughters in the kind of luxury few can dream of.

Dubbed Sweetbriar, the extraordinary property features a formal dining room, a formal living room, a home office with maple floors, a spacious family room with 22 ft. ceilings, a gourmet kitchen with adjoining breakfast room and a glass-enclosed porch on the first floor. There are four bedroom suites on the second floor, along with an exercise room and nanny quarters. The third floor has a game room, home theater and a custom pub.

There are more amenities outside the main home. The grounds include three ponds, a 10-acre lake, a boathouse, swimming pool, a barn with attached apartment and enclosed tennis court and basketball court. Jackson also built a massive 20-car garage to house his collection of classic cars.

Jackson and his wife sold the house in 2010 to downsize as their daughters got older and began spending less time at home and preparing to leave the nest. A buyer paid $28 million for the house, making it one of the largest private residence sales in Tennessee.
