Welcome to week one of The Voice Season 13 live shows, which kicked off Monday (Nov. 20). Twelve singers performed solely for viewer’s votes, while their respective coaches sat back, watched, and hoped for the best! (Want to cast your own vote? Fans can choose their favorite artists here.)
It’s been no secret that coach Miley Cyrus has been embracing her country roots, as well as admitting a renewed love for the genre, this season on the show. So, it makes perfect sense that she’d choose some women with serious country chops for her team — including Ashland Craft, who represented country for her squad with a retro classic cover of Tanya Tucker‘s 1972 hit “Delta Dawn” (Singer Helen Reddy would release an adult contemporary version of the flexible tune a year later, which also was a smash success.)
Craft took the stage dramatically and possessively, playing a guitar for the first few stanzas before tossing it aside. She gave a commanding performance of the song, showing off very big voice to full effect.
Craft was also the only of Cyrus’s three performers this evening that performed a country song. Cyrus seemed pleased with this, praising Craft’s “star power.”
