Tonight (Oct. 30) The Voice‘s Season 13 Knockouts begin. Just like the week before, team members are pitted against each other — however, in this round, each singer is allowed to perform a solo of their own choosing. One member wins, the other loses…and each coach is allowed one steal, should they choose to use it.
Kelly Clarkson — who is famously tied to another reality show, American Idol — will be on hand to help the teams, which are headed by coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus. Clarkson herself will be a coach when The Voice returns for Season 14 in the spring.
In tonight’s rounds, one of Team Miley’s fan favorites, Ashland Craft — who won last week with her gritty command of Waylon Jennings’ “A Good Hearted Woman” — took the stage to perform the genre-bending Bon Jovi ballad “Wanted Dead or Alive,” giving it a country-styled twist of her own.
Craft was faced off by Chloe Kohanski, who chose Fleetwood Mac’s wistful “Landslide.” This is a girl who knows how to handle her Fleetwood Mac — she wowed in the Blind Auditions and won her spot on Team Miley with a passionate rendition of the ’70s group’s dark “The Chain.”
Both singers garnered praise from all four coaches, with Craft getting (what fans probably expected) considerable attention for her star power. Indeed, Cyrus — who has been vocal of late regarding her renewed interest in country music — decided upon the very purely country Craft for her team.
However, Kohanski’s smoky performance did not go unrewarded, as both Shelton and Hudson swooped in for a steal. Although Hudson advised Kohanski that she believes she has winner’s potential, the singer still takes Levine’s advice and went with Team Blake.
The Voice Season 13 will continue to air on Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
