It’s an exciting night on The Voice (Dec. 11). The top eight contestants paired up for duets as well as delivering individual solos. There will be a nasty and drastic cut this week, so this is the time for the singers to really show what makes them shine individually.
Adam Cunningham, who is not on country’s Team Blake Shelton but rather hanging out in Team Adam Levine land, hand-selected Lonestar‘s 2001 hit “I”m Already There,” a heart-tugger that found prominence after the September 11 attacks six months after its release. Sometimes it’s easy to perform a song like this; sometimes not.
Cunningham seemed to take it in stride, working the song with a straightforward approach and letting the emotion of the lyrics take center stage — his coach Levine also seemed to heartily approve, terming him an “amazing surprise.” Country’s spokesperson Shelton also agreed it was a job well done, stating that Cunningham sang the hell out of the tune.
Check in tomorrow to see which of the eight hopefuls were eliminated. The Voice finale takes place next week, Tuesday Dec. 19.
