Last week on the 51st Annual CMA Awards, Keith Urban debuted a new song, “Female.” The song was inspired by the many reports now emerging in the public about sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry.
Penned by Shane McAnally, Nicolle Galyon, and Ross Copperman and produced by Urban and Dan Huff, the song has made waves and touched people nationwide. The proof came when the song soared to No. 1 on iTunes immediately following Urban’s award show performance.
Now, feeling inspired by the words the collection of No. 1 hitmakers strung together during a time in America when females are stepping forward one-by-one to tell their stories of mistreatment and abuse, Nashville’s Song Suffragettes have taken the tune on as their own. Included in the group of powerful Music City females who lent their voices to a cover of the song are “Fight Like a Girl” singer Kalie Shorr, her co-writer Lena Stone, Lacy Cavalier, Savannah Keyes, and more.
Quickly creating and releasing a collaborative video, the Song Suffragettes group is receiving rave reviews for its undertaking, and rightfully so. These girls have long fought for their places in the country music industry, and once again, they are showing just how deserving they are.
