Lynyrd Skynyrd have announced their final tour. The Southern rock icons will be bringing some fellow big names in country and Southern rock out on the road with them for their Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour.
Set to run May 4 through Sept. 1, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour will feature a number of special guests: Kid Rock, Hank Williams Jr., the Charlie Daniels Band, Bad Company, the Marshall Tucker Band, .38 Special, Blackberry Smoke and Blackfoot, among others.
“It’s hard to imagine, after all these years, the band that Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins and myself started back in Jacksonville, [Fla.] would resonate for this long and to so many generations of fans. I’m certain they are looking down from above, amazed that the music has touched so many,” says Gary Rossington in a press release. Adds Johnny Van Zant, “We’ve been blessed by these great songs and the messages they carry to the fans. It’s been a true honor to try and fill in my brother’s footsteps for the past 31 years, keeping the music and his spirit alive.”
Lynyrd Skynyrd’s farewell tour’s name is a nod to their 1977 album Street Survivors, a multi-platinum-certified release that turned out to be the final album recorded by the band’s original lineup. Three days after its debut (Oct. 20, 1977), the band’s infamous plane crash occurred. Lynyrd Skynyrd are also releasing a new song titled “The Last of the Street Survivors.”
