Luke Bryan wrapped his 2017 Farm Tour on Saturday (Oct. 7). It was less than a week after a gunman shot and killed 58 people at a country music festival in Las Vegas, and Bryan took a moment to honor those lost.
During the stop in Centralia, Mo., the singer paid tribute to the country music fans who died in Las Vegas with a moment of silence. Prefacing the somber moment, Bryan said he wants to remember the lives lost and keep the families, friends, first responders and fellow music fans in his prayers following the tragedy.
“I want to remember those beautiful, those innocent, wonderful country music fans and those victims,” Bryan said mid-set. “I want to remember them and pray for their families. I want to salute the first responders in Las Vegas that night. From the policemen that ran in, to the people in the hospitals that were having a normal night and then their world got turned upside down.”
These Are the Faces and Stories of the Las Vegas Shooting Victims
While the shooting happened at a country music festival — Vegas’ annual Route 91 Harvest — Bryan acknowledges that it isn’t just the country music community that’s suffering in the aftermath, but all music fans.
“It’s not a country music situation — it’s not a country music fan situation. It’s a music fan situation, because we were all robbed of our innocence Sunday night,” Bryan tells his audience in the fan-captured video. “I love you guys for being brave and showing up tonight and understanding the best thing we can do is show up tonight and do what we know how to do. Have fun as Americans and celebrate all the music and celebrate country music tonight.”
The crowd erupted in a chant of “U.S.A, U.S.A!” before taking a moment to pray for the victims and think of everyone affected by the tragedy. Bryan also increased security and patrol on his Farm Tour to protect fans.
