As news broke late Sunday night (Oct. 1) and early Monday morning (Oct. 2) that there had been a shooting at the 2017 Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, Nev., members of the country music community began to share their love, support and prayers to those involved. Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert are among the country stars who were not in attendance but shared their grief.
“Words can’t begin explain my sadness. My family and I are praying for the victims of this tragedy,” Bryan tweeted. “Truly heartbroken.”
Added Underwood, “Woke up to such horrible news. We are praying for the victims and their families. May the Lord bring some comfort to them.”
Lambert, meanwhile, tweeted a single broken heart emoji next to the words “my heart” and tagged the music festival’s official Twitter handle.
At least 50 people are dead and more than 400 were injured when a single shooter, who has been identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock of Mesquite, Nev., opened fire from a hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino onto the Route 91 Harvest Festival crowd, gathered outside Mandalay at Las Vegas Village. Police believe he killed himself before they entered his hotel room. The incident is the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
Jason Aldean, who was headlining the final night of the three-day festival, was performing when the shooting began, shortly after 10PM local time.
Other artists who performed at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, which ran Sept. 29-Oct. 1, include Chris Young, Jake Owen, Sam Hunt, Eric Church, Maren Morris, the Brothers Osborne and Luke Combs.
