Florida Georgia Line have tattooed their names to a number of crossover collaborations since their 2012 debut, and they’re not done.
The duo promise their upcoming fourth album will add even more collabs to their arsenal. FGL’s Brian Kelley notes that he and his partner-in-rhyme Tyler Hubbard have had new songs for a new album “sitting around for a while” and they’re ready to “knock it out” and release it.
Ever since the duo’s 2012 debut single “Cruise” went diamond (equivalent to 10 million units sold) with the help of hip-hop star Nelly, they have made a point to work with artists outside of their genre to create the next big crossover smash. With the addition of Nelly on a remix of “Cruise,” the song catapulted from the country charts to peaking at No. 4 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 in 2013. Since then, FGL have teamed with Jason Derulo, the Chainsmokers, the Backstreet Boys, Bebe Rexha and many more.
Hubbard shares that he and Kelley are thinking of new collaborating partners as they’re piecing the album together and once it gets closer to the final versions, they’ll reach out to their chosen artists, like, “You want to come to the studio and get on this song?” Hubbard says. “We’re still kind of dreaming and scheming, but we’re definitely going to do some kind of collaboration,” he adds.
The crossover game seems to have worked for Florida Georgia Line, who have landed 11 No. 1 songs on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart during their relatively short run in country music.
