Lee Brice’s Incredibly Stirring Daryle Singletary Tribute

The country music community was stunned at the news that Daryle Singletary, who was just 46 years old, passed away Feb. 12—and one of the artists who was touched by his passing, Lee Brice, posted a beautiful tribute to the late singer on his social media.

Brice, who has a traditional vocal country style in the vein of Singletary’s, did the late singer proud with a lovely version of “Old Violin,” which happened to be the final song Singletary performed during his last show Saturday (Feb. 10) at Cowboy’s nightclub in Lafayette, La. The tune was orriginally written and recorded by Johnny Paycheck in the mid ’80s.

“Just heard the news about the passing of Daryle Singletary. My heart goes out to his beautiful family,” Brice commented on his heartfelt post.

Singletary was a’90s country hitmaker known for a big, traditional country voice and songs like “Amen Kind of Love” and “I Let Her Lie.” His commercial success came during the mid-to-late-’90s. but he continued to record original music and albums of cover songs that featured stars like Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Paycheck, Dwight Yoakam and more.

Singletary’s official cause of death has not been revealed, but a representative tells the Boot he had a blood clot. The 46-year-old leaves behind a wife and four children under the age of eight.
