ROCKING M Country KVWF (100.5 HANK FM)/WICHITA flipped to all CHRISTMAS music as of last SATURDAY (12/2), lending speculation to an imminent format flip. Country since 2008, and originally branded as “100.5 THE WOLF,” KVWF shifted to Classic Country in 2015, re-launching as “HANK FM” (NET NEWS 11/23/15). Morning personality CATHY CARRIER segues to similar duties at Country clustermate KKGQ, with afternoon host COLBY ERICSON remaining in mornings across the hall at Variety Hits KIBB.
The flip still leaves WICHITA with a glut of Country outlets – nine, to be precise. In SEPTEMBER, ROCKING M flipped KKGQ to Country, with a TEXAS Red Dirt music direction, bringing the market total to 10 Country stations (NET NEWS 9/6).
The crowded WICHTA Country field still includes SCRIPPS KFDI and KFTI-A combo, ROCKING M’s KKGQ, iHEARTMEDIA KZSN, STECKLINE Classic Country KWLS/WINFIELD, EAGLE COMMUNICATIONS KHUT/HUTCHINSON, COWLEY COUNTY Combo KSOK-A and KSOK-F/WINFIELD, and AD ASTRA RADIO KXKU/LYONS – the latter five stations outside of WICHITA proper but still reaching the market, which has a population of just over half-a-million persons.
