Kelsea Ballerini’s ‘Legends’ Becomes Her Fourth No. 1 Single

Kelsea Ballerini‘s “Legends” lyrics are becoming reality.

She’s back at the top of the charts, making her the first female country artist in more than a decade to have debut singles from her first and second albums to go to No. 1. This hasn’t been done since Carrie Underwood in 2007.

“Legends” — lead track off Ballerini’s sophomore album, Unapologetically — is at No. 1 on both the Mediabase Country and Billboard Country Airplay charts this week. The song follows the singer’s previous No. 1 successes with “Love Me Like You Mean It,” “Dibs” and “Peter Pan.”

“I can’t believe ‘Legends’ is my fourth No. 1!” Ballerini says. “Country radio. Fans. Co-Writers. Band. Crew. Team. All I can say is THANK YOU. As one of the first songs I wrote for Unapologetically, the song really captures my journey of loss, life, love, and truly is the heartbeat of this record. Seeing radio embrace this story has meant the world to me.”

Ballerini co-wrote “Legends” with Hillary Lindsey and Forest Glen Whitehead. Her follow-up single, “I Hate Love Songs,” will impact radio on Feb. 22. Ballerini wrote the ballad with Shane McAnally and Old Dominion‘s Trevor Rosen.

“I will never forget introducing ‘I Hate Love Songs’ at the Grand Ole Opry before my record was even out, and just the overwhelming feeling of magic. I’d never experienced anything like that before with a song,” she recalls. “It’s sweet and sassy and I hope you love it as much as I do.”
