When Kelly Clarkson appeared on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Tuesday night (Oct. 31), she made no bones about the fact that she’s going to be a tough contender on her upcoming stint as coach on Season 14 of The Voice.
“I will say it’s funny because on our season, it’s Adam [Levine], Blake [Shelton], and Alicia [Keys], and they’re always quick to point out they all won, and I’m like, ‘So have I,'” the American Idol inaugural champion pointed out, causing the audience to erupt in applause and cheers.
Clarkson had no problems proving she’s still a winner. “You probably sang a lot of your songs like a thousand times,” observed Fallon. “You must know them backwards and forwards?”
Oh, yes, indeed! Clarkson replied calmly, “I’m a professional,” and proceeded to deliver a rendition of her hit “Since U Been Gone” completely backwards. (For those of you who are a little less lyrically bendy and need some help, that translates to “Gone Been U Since.”)
Clarkson had karaoke-style lyrics to help her along, and made a few minor (laughing) flubs along the way, but overall did a smashing job. Okay, Blake, let’s see you do this with “Hillbilly Bone”?
Clarkson is not only priming her upcoming role on the vocal reality show — she’s currently in the midst of promoting her latest album, Meaning of Life, which dropped Oct. 27.
