Keith Urban picked up the first award of the night at the 2017 CMA Awards for Single of the Year for his groundbreaking hit, “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”
Pitch Perfect 3 stars Brittany Snow and Ruby Rose presented the award to Urban, which marks his first win in the category. He beat out fellow nominees Little Big Town for “Better Man,” Sam Hunt‘s “Body Like a Back Road,” “Dirt on My Boots” by Jon Pardi and Miranda Lambert‘s haunting single “Tin Man.”
Urban received a standing ovation from the huge crowd inside Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena filled with his fellow peers, thanking Hillary Lindsey, Seven Lee Olsen and Clint Lagerberg for writing what he calls it an “incredible song.” Of course he sent love to his beautiful wife Nicole Kidman, who was not able to be with him at the show, but who he promised to FaceTime her after getting offstage. The country star also brought the song’s producer Dann Huff on stage with him, who proclaimed “to wok with this guy is a dream come true.”
“Blue Ain’t Your Color” is also up for Song of the Year, with Urban also scoring nominations in the categories of Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. He was also up for Music Video of the Year, which went to Brothers Osborne‘s “Ain’t My Fault.”
