The latest post on the INTEGR8 RESEARCH website delves into new music discovery and finds both good news and bad news for radio. The good news is that local FM radio stations remain the leading source for 15-39 listeners to discover new music. That bad news is that radio is no longer dominating in new music discovery, especially among teens, who are getting their new music fix just as often from on-demand audio services and YOUTUBE.
Only 34% of teens typically hear the latest new music first from a local FM radio station, while almost as many hear new music first from an on-demand audio service or YOUTUBE.
Connected car owners are also gravitating toward alternatives to FM radio. Only 43% of connected car owners say they hear the latest new music first on FM radio, while 33% hear new music first on an on-demand audio service. That shift is bigger than for any other device examined.
Yet those at INTEGR8 believe radio has a trump card to reclaim a greater dominance in music discovery. That trump card will be revealed in a webinar entitled webinar “ALEXA and the Vanishing AM-FM Radio,” to be held THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26th at 2p ET/11a PT. Click here to register for the webinar.
