It’s been a busy week in the world of country music videos, but The Boot has rounded up the latest releases for your viewing pleasure. From up-and-coming anthems to a Brandy Clark tune with a harmonic twist, the songs featured in these clips cover the spectrum of musical taste.
Steve Moakler, “Born Ready”
Steve Moakler is just now making a big splash as a musician, but he’s been around Nashville, penning tunes, for some time. “Born Ready” is the title track of his next album, due out later this year. Part of a partnership with Mack Trucks, “Born Ready” is a sweeping tribute to the long-haul truckers of America; its accompanying music video captures the soaring open-road anthem feel that Moakler brings, along with a look at life on the road and away from loved ones at home.
I’m With Her, “Game to Lose”
I’m With Her, the heavy-hitting trio made up of Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O’Donovan, released their highly anticipated debut album, See You Around, on Friday (Feb. 16). Their music video for “Game to Lose” is a showcase of the band’s intricate harmonies and musical talent, all wrapped up in a rich visual format.
“On a rainy day in January, we filmed this video in Koreatown, [in] Los Angeles. Working with [director] Genéa [Gaudet] and her team, we were able to capture the evocative nature of the song while exploring color both light and dark,” The band says in a press release. “The focus on the triptych of voices coupled with the keen eye of the director left us with a video that really tells a story through the song.”
The Oak Ridge Boys, “Pray to Jesus”
From their soon-to-be released album 17th Avenue Revival, the Oak Ridge Boys bring rockabilly sensibilities to the music video for their latest song, “Pray to Jesus.” Written by Brandy Clark, the peppy tune’s tongue-in-cheek lyrics are expressed through the clip, which gives a glimpse into everyday, all-American life. Heavy on the piano and playful vibes, the video includes scenes of family life and shots the band recording in the legendary RCA Studio A on, you guessed it, 17th Avenue in Nashville, with producer Dave Cobb.
Leah Turner, “Sleep You Off”
Leah Turner‘s sultry voice takes a poppy turn in “Sleep You Off,” her latest single that has a seductive new video to match. Tossing and turning, Turner is working through a break up in her own, original, sing-it-like-it-is style. From her bedroom and to lonely bar to singing in the rain, the video for “Sleep You Off” captures the tumultuous frustration of moving on.
Home Free, “It Looks Good”
Home Free blend honky-tonk country with catchy pop in the music video for their latest single, “It Looks Good.” The five-member country a cappella group, along with their real-life significant others, play out a love-at-first-sight scene in the clip, set at a bar. Written by bass singer Tim Foust along with Mike Luginbill and longtime producer Darren Rust, the feel-good hookup tune is one of four original songs on the group’s latest album, Timeless.
