Florida Georgia Line represented country music Sunday night (Nov. 19), taking the stage with pop’s Hailee Steinfeld at the 2017 American Music Awards to perform their new collaborative track, “Let Me Go.”
The song is a multi-artist collaboration — Watt and Alesso also lend their talents to the studio version of the track alongside FGL. Opting for a sleek, futuristic-looking set complete with smoke machines and laser beams, Steinfeld took lead vocals on the catchy song while the country duo sang back up.
With everyone dressed in all-white ensembles, FGL’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley danced on the set’s two platforms above the stage, rocking out while Steinfeld manned the stage below. Energetic backup dancers made for an even livelier performance as the country stars proclaimed, “I’ve been hoping / Someone will love you, let me go,” during the chorus along with the young star. Hubbard and Kelley looked right in their element, jamming out to the infectious pop track, marking the first time the song has been performed live.
“Let Me Go” is latest single from the Pitch Perfect star and was released in September of 2017. It is one of several times the country duo has crossed over into the pop world, following notable collaborations with the Backstreet Boys, Nelly, the Chainsmokers and Bebe Rexha.
The “Cruise” singers are up for Favorite Duo or Group — Country at the 2017 awards show, along with Little Big Town and Old Dominion. Keith Urban certainly cleaned up nice, taking home three of the night’s awards for Favorite Male Artist — Country, Favorite Album — Country for Ripcord and Favorite Song – Country for his megahit, “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”
