Exclusive: Jason Isbell Performs ‘Hope the High Road’ for ‘Austin City Limits’

Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit will be returning for another appearance on Austin City Limits Saturday (Jan. 13), showcasing their acclaimed roots rock. Taste of Country has an exclusive preview of Isbell’s performance of “Hope the High Road” for fans to enjoy in advance of the episode’s airing.

Isbell’s set was recorded last summer and comprises six songs from his sixth studio album The Nashville Sound, which topped numerous critics’ year-end best lists and is nominated for two 2018 Grammy Awards, including Best Americana Album. In addition to “Hope the High Road,” he’ll treat viewers “If We Were Vampires,” “White Man’s World,” “Last of my Kind,” “Cumberland Gap,” and “Anxiety.”

The episode is a very special one, as it features Isbell’s wife, Amanda Shires, who is making her solo debut on the program. Her set includes a duet with Isbell for “Wasted and Rollin’,” a song she wrote about the early stages of their relationship, as well as the set-closing, heartfelt “Pale Fire.”

To see Isbell and Shires’ full ACL episode, check your local PBS listings for the broadcast time in your area. Isbell will be playing a three-night run in Birmingham, AL, next week starting on Jan. 18.
