Lari White, who’s helmed a dynamic career over the past couple of decades most notably marked by ’90s Top 10 hits “That’s My Baby,” “Now I Know,” and “That’s How You Know (When You’re in Love),” has sadly announced an ongoing battle with cancer.
A letter from White published in November on ArtistWorks’ blog—where she works offering online vocal lessons—explained the singer’s ordeal, which began with a persistent upset stomach. Exploratory surgery to diagnose the problem unfortunately resulted in the worst news.
“The surgery revealed advanced Peritoneal Cancer,” the singer, 52, explained. “Since then a series of complications including pain management, pneumonia and a bowel obstruction requiring emergency surgery has kept me in and out of the hospital fighting for my life. This is, of course, my focus for the foreseeable future.”
White also related that she will be facing chemotherapy and additional surgery through 2018, which will keep her mostly bedridden as she battles the disease.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe account has been established to help with White’s hospital bills.
“As we all know Lari and [husband] Chuck [Cannon] are professional touring musicians who rely on live performances and merchandise sales to pay their bills,” the fund’s note detailed.“Since her diagnosis Lari has been unable to tour and has had very little time to devote to writing, coaching or producing. Chuck has cut back his touring significantly and has devoted himself to caring for Lari as she fights this dreadful disease. Understandably the treatment and time away from their jobs has had a devastating impact on their finances.”
As of posting time, the fund has received close to $12,000.
White’s most recent project, the pair of EPs Old Friends and New Loves, were released in Feb. 2017 and mark her 25th anniversary as a recording artist. The sets feature appearances by Delbert McClinton, Suzy Bogguss and Lee Roy Parnell.
