Country singer Jason Aldean cancels upcoming shows following Las Vegas shooting ‘out of respect for the victims’

Jason Aldean has cancelled his weekend shows after Sunday’s shooting at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival in Las Vegas.

The country singer was performing on stage when Stephen Paddock opened fire on the crowd.

“I feel like out of respect for the victims, their families and our fans, it is the right thing to do,” Jason said in a statement posted to his website and Twitter.

“It has been an emotional time for everyone involved this week, so we plan to take some time to mourn the ones we have lost and be close with our family and friends.”

He also praised his fans for their support this week. “I want to say thank you for the outpouring of love from my friends and fans we have received over the last couple days. You guys have no idea how much you have helped us get through this tough time.”

Earlier, he had said he was “afraid” to bring his children up in the world.

In an emotional message shared on Twitter, he wrote: “I am so sorry for the hurt and pain everyone is feeling right now and there are no words I can say to take that pain away.

“Just know you all are in my heart and my prayers as we all go through this together. Time to together and stop the hate!”

Refunds are available for those who purchased tickets for the Los Angeles, San Diego, and Anaheim concerts from October 6-8, and fans who were selected to attend a meet-and-greet with Jason will have the opportunity to do so during next year’s tour.

He will resume this year’s tour in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on October 12.

The Las Vegas shooting resulted in 59 deaths and over 500 injuries from either the bullets or the resulting stampede.

Jennifer Lopez, currently in her Jennifer Lopez: All I Have residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, also canceled her scheduled shows this week. The performances will be rescheduled for later dates.

“Jennifer is heartbroken that such a senseless tragedy occurred. Her thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” the singer’s representatives said in a statement on Tuesday.
