Clare Bowen doesn’t just play a singer on the hit TV show Nashville — she is also an artist in real life. The newlywed has been slowly sharing her own music, including her recent single “Little By Little,” which she admits put her way out of her comfort zone.
Bowen wrote “Little By Little” with UK artist Amy Wade — who wrote Ed Sheeran‘s “Thinking Out Loud” — and her now-husband, Brandon Robert Young.
“To get to work with someone like that is really terrifying,” Bowen tells The Boot of writing with Wade. “It was a huge honor.
“It’s been really nice,” Bowen adds, “and I’m glad that I got to have the writing of the album and recording between shooting the show, because it’s given me a chance to find my way as an artist … I’m really excited to show everybody the music.”
Bowen almost had to say goodbye to her role as Scarlett O’Connor on Nashville in 2016. Fortunately, though, the show, which was canceled after four seasons on ABC, was quickly picked up by CMT to return for Season 5, which aired earlier this year. CMT’s decision to bring Nashville back was made in part thanks to the uproar created by devoted fans, dubbed “Nashies” — just as Bowen says she predicted.
“I said, jokingly, ‘I think if the show got canceled, there would be some kind of ‘Nashie’ uprising.’ And then there was,” Bowen recalls. “It was just kind of interesting, sitting back and going, ‘We’ll see how this blows up.’
“But the Nashies are so wonderful, and I’m so grateful to them for calling us back the way they did and to this beautiful city for welcoming us back the way that it has,” Bowen continues. “It’s kind of wild. It’s been a really cool ride.”
Nashville, which will return for a sixth season in 2018, airs on Thursday nights on CMT. Bowen’s single “Little By Little” is available for download on iTunes.
