Chris Stapleton‘s first From A Room: Volume 2 single has been announced. “Midnight Train to Memphis” will be going for adds at country radio beginning on Nov. 13.
Written by Stapleton and his former SteelDrivers‘ bandmate Mike Henderson, “Midnight Train to Memphis” is Track No. 7 on Stapleton’s upcoming new album. Official, studio-quality audio of the song has not yet been released, but fans can watch Stapleton perform “Midnight Train to Memphis” live during his Summer 2017 All-American Road Show Tour above.
“Forty days of shotguns and barbed-wire fences / Forty nights to sit and listen to the midnight train to Memphis,” Stapleton sings in “Midnight Train to Memphis.” “Well now, 10 for the jury, 10 for the judge / Twenty more to forget my grudge / When I get to 39 / That’s the longest day in a prisoner’s mind.”
SteelDrivers fans will likely be familiar with “Midnight Train to Memphis”: The band’s version of the song appears on 2008’s The SteelDrivers, released via Rounder Records. The album hit No. 2 on the bluegrass charts.
From A Room: Volume 2 will be Stapleton’s second record of 2017. From A Room: Volume 1 dropped on May 5, and Volume 2 is set for release on Dec. 1. The project features nine tracks, seven of which were co-written by Stapleton.
