Carrie Underwood Will Finally Get to Bring Husband Mike Fisher as Her CMA Awards Date

For years, Carrie Underwood has had to walk the CMA Awards red carpet solo, as her husband Mike Fisher was usually tied up with duties as a player for the Nashville Predators. But not this year!

Now that Fisher has retired from hockey, he’ll finally be able to attend the awards show with his wife, and she couldn’t be more excited about it. Underwood and CMA Awards co-host Brad Paisley sat down with Good Morning America‘s Ginger Zee this week to chat about the show.

“I’ll actually have a date this year. My husband’s coming!” Underwood spills gleefully.

Perhaps in preparation for the show, Paisley couldn’t help but poke fun at his ten-year co-host, quipping: “That’s right, he’s unemployed.”

“He’s unemployed,” Underwood snaps back. “He can make it!”

The 2017 CMA Awards will honor the victims of the tragic Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting that left 58 country music fans dead on Oct. 1. “It’s important that we watch something other than … news, disasters,” Paisley says, speaking of how the show will be a light-hearted escape in times of darkness. “We don’t go gossipy, we don’t go attack anybody, we’re not up there to offend. We’re up there to celebrate what our music is about. Country music is about life, it’s just really the format that is reality in terms of the lyric and the storytelling. I think it’s hopefully an escape.”

This year’s CMA Awards will mark Underwood and Paisley’s tenth year in a row hosting together. The CMAs air live from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Wednesday (Nov. 8) at 8PM ET on ABC.

Wait … Carrie Underwood Hates What?!
