For days, rumors swirled that WARNER BROS./WMN’s BLAKE SHELTON, who doubles-down on his celebrity status by serving as a judge on NBC-TV’s “The Voice,” would be named PEOPLE’s “Sexiest Man Alive” this year. The official word came last night (11/14), and SHELTON has been named PEOPLE’s “Sexiest Man Alive,” becoming the first Country artist to hold the title since PEOPLE began celebrating attractive men back in 1985. “Like, wow, we’re down to somebody who is somewhat symmetrical,” quipped SHELTON, whose sex appeal gets a boost from his winning personality, to PEOPLE.
Additionally, only one other musical artist has held the title — SHELTON’s fellow “The Voice” judge, ADAM LEVINE, who reigned supreme in 2013. “I can’t wait to shove this up ADAM’s ass,” SHELTON told PEOPLE. “As proud as I am and honored that you guys asked me, that’s really the only thing I care about.” PEOPLE most often crowns screen actors as “Sexiest Man Alive” with the likes of RICHARD GERE, BRAD PITT, GEORGE CLOONEY, and JOHNNY DEPP each earning the title twice. The win for SHELTON serves to cement the growing popularity of Country music and its artists both as musicians and pop culture icons.
