COMMONWEALTH PUBLIC BROADCASTING CORP., licensee of PBS affiliates WCVE-TV and WCVW-TV/RICHMOND and WHTJ-TV/CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA and NPR affiliate WCVE-F/RICHMOND, is buying two stations from ALPHA MEDIA, 80s WBBT/POWHATAN-RICHMOND, VA and Classic Country WWLB (93.1 HANK FM)/ETTRICK-PETERSBURG-RICHMOND, VA, for an undisclosed price.
CPBC plans to move music programming off WCVE-F, leaving it all-News-Talk, and put Classical and Jazz programming on WBBT and WWLB, which will simulcast. Local Classical hosts GEORGE MAIDA, SHAWN EVANS, and MIKE GOLDBERG and local Jazz host PETER SOLOMON will move to the new simulcast.
“This transaction fulfills a long-held objective, enabling us to meet the dual listening demands of our radio audience. For the first time ever, we will be able to dramatically expand our programming to our listeners, providing wall-to-wall news and public affairs programming on one station, while delivering the best in classical music, jazz and other music offerings on the other. We are thrilled to be able to give every public broadcasting listener in the region the best of both worlds,” said CPBC President/CEO CURTIS MONK.
