Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani haven’t been shy about their relationship. Whether they’re swapping each other’s photos on social media or showing up at concerts to surprise the other’s fans, their love is as public as you can get without showing too much.
So it’s no shock that Stefani has had a major influence on Shelton’s forthcoming album, Texoma Shore, which will be released on Nov. 3. On his new single, “I’ll Name the Dogs,” Shelton sings of settling down. He stops short of saying he’ll marry Stefani soon, but he’s comfortable around the pop-rocker and her kids — two of Stefani’s sons are featured in the music video for the song.
Another song, “At the House,” is one the country star says he and Stefani were listening to during some summer downtime, and he knew he wanted to record it for his project. “I was spending a lot of time this past summer out on Lake Texoma,” Shelton explains. “There was one week in particular where it was just Gwen and I out there just basically hanging out. We finally had some time off, so we went out on the water every day, went back up to the house every night and just had one of the greatest times of my life. We were listening to this song and relating to it and realizing, ‘Man, this is one of those summers that we’re always going to remember.’”
On the sexy “Turnin’ Me On,” Stefani’s influence is obvious as Shelton sings of her “Revlon red” lips. “Knows how to set me on fire / She’s always holdin’ the match / And when my body’s beside hers / There ain’t no turnin’ back / She’s Revlon red in the blackest night / Lighting up the room in the world just like / She’s turnin’ me on,” he croons. It was the only song he wrote for the album — Shelton said he was sitting on his bus alone with his guitar when inspiration struck.
“I started playing a little melody that I was hearing in my head and next thing you know I started writing a song. I wrote a verse, then I wrote a chorus, then I realized it was going somewhere and I felt good about it,” Shelton explains. “I’m super proud of it – and it’s not hard to figure out who this song is about.”
