However, most of those ’90s newbies had songs that were just outside of our Best Country Songs of the ’90s choices. Many of the established acts were firmly holding their ground throughout the decade, but smash acts like the Dixie Chicks and Twain undeniably took charge when given the opportunity.

According to the RIAA, both of the Dixie Chicks ’90s albums, Wide Open Spaces (1998) and Fly (1999), went triple platinum by the end of the decade and since then, have each earned diamond status (over 10 million units sold).

Twain’s success was even greater in terms of album sales, having reached 11 times platinum with 1995’s The Woman in Me and 16 times platinum with 1997’s Come On Over before the end of the decade. Currently, The Woman in Me stands at 12 times platinum, while Come On Over skyrocketed to 20 times platinum after 1999.
