Jana Kramer Countrifies a Cover of Meredith Brooks’ ‘Bitch’ [Watch]

Originally on Brooks’ album Blurring the Lines, “Bitch” peaked at No. 2 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in the same year as the song’s release, belting the iconic chorus: “I’m a bitch, I’m a lover / I’m a child, I’m a mother / I’m a sinner, I’m a saint / I do not feel ashamed / I’m your hell, I’m your dream / I’m nothing in between / You know you wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Kramer’s cover doesn’t stray too far from the original, other than perhaps the natural tone of her voice. She jams with two guitarists throughout the video in a casual, one-shot take. The setting reveals the three hanging out on a sectional couch with raw audio in total DIY fashion. Kramer doesn’t even speak before or after the song; the three just fade in and fade out with the song as the highlight.

It’s not the first time Kramer has posted a video of her crooning a cover song; she also sang the Dixie Chicks‘ “Cowboy Take Me Away” on a YouTube video released in early September.

In late August, she also released a similar video — in the exact same setting — of her singing an acoustic rendition of her latest single, “I’ve Done Love,” an emotionally charged ballad with analogies of love being like drinking and drugs.

The country singer recently moved to Los Angeles and has yet to announce new tour plans, but promises more new music to follow “I’ve Done Love.”
