Guest Room Sessions: Swearingen and Kelli, ‘The Last One’

Americana duo Swearingen and Kelli headed to the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe, Pa., for their Guest Room Sessions performance. Readers can press play above to watch March’s first installment of the series.

Joined by their drummer, Josh Kanusky, and their bassist, Nick Franclik, husband and wife AJ Swearingen and Jayne Kelli are performing their song “The Last One;” the waltz appears on their first album, a self-titled project. Kelli tells The Boot that they filmed this clip after a music video shoot at the Opera House, which she describes as “our favorite Northeast venue.”

“There was no better place to shoot this than this stage, which feels like home to us now,” Kelli says. Adds Swearingen of Kanusky and Franclik, “These guys had a great feel for our music from the first time we played together, and Nick has some really great boots.”

Now based in Florida, Swearingen and Kelli released their sophomore album, The Marrying Kind, in July of 2017. Kelli admits that the record’s tracks “came from a powerful emotional body” — so much so, in fact, that she found herself choking up while recording them, for the first time in her career.
