Dierks Bentley Donates Blood for Route 91 Victims, Finds Reason to Smile Again

In times of devastation, it’s hard to know how to help; it’s also often difficult to find a reason to smile amidst such pain. However, Dierks Bentley found a way to do both after Sunday night’s (Oct. 1) Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting.

The “Riser” singer posted Instagram photos on Wednesday (Oct. 4) showing himself donating blood for the victims of the shooting in Las Vegas, Nev.; he and the medical worker taking his blood are smiling for the camera. Bentley admits in the photo’s caption that his smile has not been present in the days since the tragic event — but, because of the “other donors and great people [at the American Red Cross],” he found a reason to smile.

Country Stars Respond Following Route 91 Harvest Festival Shooting

In his post, Bentley says, he hasn’t “really been able to function at all since the shooting.” He adds, “My heart breaks over and over again for all those fans in Las Vegas and their families.”

There are many, including Bentley, trying to make a difference in the wake of the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting. Vigils for the victims took place in Nashville and Las Vegas, and in addition to blood drives like the one Bentley participated in, a GoFundMe account has been established to help monetarily. Maren Morris shared an unreleased song, “Dear Hate,” the proceeds of which will go to help victims, and Miranda Lambert doled out a hug during a show in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (where one of the 59 victims lived).
