Carrie Underwood Softly and Tenderly Honors Those Who Lost Their Lives This Year

It is not uncommon for an “in memoriam” section during an awards show to honor those in the respective industry who lost their lives during the year. However, it is atypical for that segment of a show to also pay tribute to fans of the industry who senselessly fell victim at an event.

This year at the 51st Annual CMA Awards, host, nominee, and vocal powerhouse Carrie Underwood was given the task and privilege of performing as photographs and videos of those we said goodbye to scrolled on the screen. She was also faced with the impossible job of keeping her composure as fifty-eight country music fans’ pictures were shown, marking each of the innocent lives lost at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas just over five weeks ago.

As Underwood flawlessly sang “Softly and Tenderly” and the victims from Las Vegas were displayed, the beautiful performer became choked up and hung her head in sadness and prayer. A pin drop could be heard around the world.

Watch the heartbreaking performance that was certainly the most memorable moment of the night below, and please join us in continuing to keep the victims’ families in your prayers.
