She’s being remembered fondly by all who knew her.
Shelton turned to Twitter on Monday (March 4) to express remorse for the late singer, who passed away at the age of 33 on March 2 from a battle with pneumonia and a blood clot that inflicted her heart. Freeman was a member of Miley Cyrus‘ team during Season 13 of the show in 2017.
Very sorry to hear about Janice Freeman passing away… She was so sweet to be around. She will be missed.

Shelton’s message was simple, but sweet, reflecting on Freeman’s kind nature. “Very sorry to hear about Janice Freeman passing away… She was so sweet to be around. She will be missed,” he writes, with many fans replying with their own reflections. One Twitter user called her a “very amazing” woman with a “beautiful personality,” while another remarked that she was “such a beautiful person, inside and out.”
The country singer is the third Voice coach to share their condolences in the wake of Freeman’s passing. Both Cyrus and fellow Season 13 coach Jennifer Hudson paid homage to Freeman on Instagram, with Cyrus writing “Thank you, @JaniceFreeman…for everything. This represents you perfectly,” alongside a photo of a rainbow outside of her window. Like Shelton, Hudson also commented on Freeman’s beautiful spirit. “The voice of hers we got to hear and the bit of life we got to watch her live was a blessing and inspiration to us all!” she writes. Brandi Carlile also turned to Instagram to express her grief, referring to Freeman as “an icon the world hadn’t fully realized yet.”
Freeman was open about her series of health plights, revealing in her blind audition that she had overcome cancer. She later opened up about her battles with meningitis and lupus. In a statementannouncing her death, a representative from Freeman’s team called her a “survivor and fighter” and a “beautiful force in this world.”
